Alienware PR reached out to us to clarify that we received incorrect information at E3 2019. It turns out that the gaming monitor will indeed release in Q4 in select territories and we will have more information on the product in the coming months. Stay tuned!

At CES 2019, Alienware surprised attendees by showcasing a massive 55" OLED gaming monitor featuring pretty much every noteworthy feature there is today, from HDMI 2.1 to DisplayPort 1.4 (allowing 4K@120Hz), from High Dynamic Range (HDR) to Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
At the time, Alienware told the press the display was scheduled to be released in the second half of 2019. Given that we are now just entering the latter half of the year and that Alienware itself was an exhibitor at E3 2019, we couldn't pass up the chance to check directly and see if there were any updates.
As it turns out, we did learn something new, though it's not exactly the kind of good news we were hoping to relay. In fact, the Alienware executive on hand explained this was still a 'conceptual product' that may never be released after all, as its potential commercial viability is still in question. This was a bit disheartening to hear, as the OLED gaming monitor would be able to fill a niche for those PC gamers looking for a big display to go with their high-end rigs.
Having the DisplayPort would mean potentially enabling G-Sync compatibility, which is otherwise (and sadly, I might add) unavailable over HDMI for the time being. As it is, PC gamers have to choose between the gorgeous image quality of an OLED panel and the undeniably smooth, tear-free gameplay provided by VRR technology.
The Alienware executive did say if the product goes beyond the conceptual stage, an announcement would likely be made at the next Consumer Electronics Show (CES, due to take place in Las Vegas between Tuesday, 7th January 2020 and Friday, 10th January 2020). We'll have a team on site just like last year, thus ensuring you'll get all the latest news straight from the event.
As for pricing, we were told this would be a premium product targeting the high-end segment, upwards of $3K USD. This would make it more expensive than the latest LG OLED TVs it's based upon.
