Death Stranding No Longer Listed as a PlayStation 4 Exclusive, Suggesting PC Version Might Be Confirmed Shortly

Death Stranding is now roughly three months away from its scheduled release on PlayStation 4. Although it might seem like its development time was fairly long, in reality it went by rather quickly if you consider the circumstances.

Hideo Kojima and his studio temporarily closed in July 2015, just ahead of the launch of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (which occurred in September), after splitting with Konami due to creative differences. The studio was revived as an independent team in December 2015, when Kojima announced to have partnered with Sony to make his new game.

At that time, Death Stranding hadn't been revealed yet, as that would only happen during the following E3 in June 2016. In the first Kojima Productions press release issued on December 2015, the project was said to be planned for PC as well after launching on PlayStation 4, as you can see from this archived document.

However, no further mention of a PC version was ever made in any official capacity for Death Stranding, though rumors continued swirling. In late May 2019, just over two months ago, Italian journalist Antonio Fucito once again stated Death Stranding would be available on PC at a later time.

Today we're a bit closer to confirming that's indeed the case, thanks to ResetEra's eagle-eyed user Vestan, who noticed that Death Stranding is no longer listed among PlayStation 4 exclusives on the official PlayStation site page for exclusives, while it had been listed there until just a few months ago as seen on the Wayback Machine.

It's not an official confirmation, of course, but it is a hint that such an announcement could come soon. Kojima himself will be at Geoff Keighley's gamescom Opening Night Live event on August 19th, though that might be more fitting as the venue for a new trailer rather than anything else.

Either way, we'll make sure to report anything related to Death Stranding. Stay tuned!
