Just when you thought it was high time Microsoft showed some tough to its hardware lineup, the company announces a Surface event to be held on October 2 in New York City. The event could serve as a platform to launch several products, along with a dual-screen device that Microsoft has reportedly been working on for quite a while.
Microsoft Surface Event 2019; Here’s What Could Be Announced
Back in 2018, during the same October 2 event, Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 6, a versatile and compact machine that was powered by Intel’s ‘U’ series quad-core processors. With the chip manufacturer officially launched its 10th-generation Comet Lake Mobility processors that boast up to 6 cores and 12 threads, we’re excited that a bevy of Surface-branded machines will be able to handle multi-threaded applications with much more ease.
However, there are chances the company might switch to ARM or AMD chips, as Microsoft is reportedly displeased with Intel’s product’s performance. At this stage, the technology giant has the option to incorporate Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx or a Ryzen 3750H processor, neither of which are able to provide the performance gain over Intel’s mobile silicon offerings. Additionally, the Surface Book is yet to receive a refresh and it could be the first time that Microsoft offers a hexa-core touting machine that can also double as a tablet by separating the display assembly from the keyboard dock.
One of the more interesting devices that could be teased during the Surface event is the dual-screen machine codenamed ‘Centaurus’. It’s highly likely Microsoft won’t launch it this year, so we’ll wait for 2020 when Apple has also been reported multiple times to release a foldable iPad to compete against this product. One addition that we’d love to see introduced on these devices is a Thunderbolt 3 port.
With Microsoft’s laptop manufacturing partners having already embraced the USB Type-C interface, it’s high time the tech giant joined the bandwagon, as it will give its Surface lineup more versatility.
