Note: In case you are wondering why we haven't listed any iPad here, it's because iPadOS won't be available until the end of this month.

Backup Everything Using iCloud or iTunes

There's no excuse to avoid a backup at this point. Use iCloud or iTunes, it's totally up to you.

  • iTunes Backup: Connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac using a Lightning cable, wait for your device to show up in iTunes. Now click on the tiny little iPhone-like icon on the top left hand corner, then in the backup section select 'This Computer' then choose to start the backup right away.
  • iCloud Backup: Assuming you have plenty of space in your iCloud account, connect to a WiFi network first. Now launch the Settings app, tap on the Apple ID section at the very top. Now tap on the 'iCloud' section, scroll down a little and tap on 'iCloud Backup.' Tap on 'Back Up Now.'

Make Sure You Have Enough Space for iOS 13 Final Installation

Although around 3GB is more than enough, but I will highly recommend that you take things slightly overboard by freeing up at least 6GB of storage space. This will make sure that the update goes through as smoothly as possible. It's best to get rid of less-used apps, taking a backup of photos and then deleting them off your iPhone and so on.

Have a MFi-Certified Lightning Cable in Hand

The iOS 13 final update will be available over the air, and you can download it by simply going to Settings > General > Software Update. However, if you are planning on performing a clean installation using iTunes then you will require a Lightning cable. Please make sure that you are using the original cable from Apple or a third-party MFi-certified one. Do not, under any circumstance, use a knockoff cable. Not only it can damage your device, but it can cause the installation to fail as well.

Install the Latest Version of iTunes if Available

Go through the Software Update utility from time to time on your PC or Mac to make sure that you are running the latest version of iTunes. There is a possibility that Apple might release an update this Thursday. Stay sharp.

Now We All Wait

If you went through the checklist, then you are all set for installing iOS 13 this Thursday on your iPhone. Basically, start playing the waiting game.
