The second-generation gaming-centric phone from the Taiwanese manufacturer has finally made its way to the U.S. ASUS ROG Phone II preorders are now open but before you go ahead, it’s worth mentioning that the phone is not compatible with all major stateside carriers.
Launched back in July this year, the ROG Phone II is heavy on internal specifications and sounds like a good pick for gaming enthusiasts and those that want a snappy Android device in general. In the U.S., B&H Video and Mobile Advance are now taking ASUS ROG Phone II preorders, and the former will start selling it from October 2. Additionally, it can also be bought from ASUS’ online store. As for the pricing, the smartphone will set you back by $899, but considering the hardware you’re getting in return, the amount might seem small to a lot of potential customers.
Apparently, the phone was initially not meant for the U.S. As a result, it’s missing many LTE bands. Thus the phone will only work with AT&T and T-Mobile, and not Verizon and Sprint. Putting the ASUS ROG Phone II preorders aside and focusing on its internal specifications, you’ll find that its hardware will be overkill for a lot of users. It sports a 120Hz 6.65-inch AMOLED panel with a 240Hz touch sample rate. Embedded within the screen is a fingerprint reader.
The device is underpinned by the Snapdragon 855 Plus, which is the slightly more powerful version of the Snapdragon 855 SoC. It also features 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 512GB of onboard UFS 3.0 storage. At the back, there is a dual-camera system, with one 48MP sensor and the other being a 13MP wide-angle unit. On the front, there is a 24MP selfie shooter. Powering the device is a huge 6000mAh battery for long, uninterrupted gaming sessions. To elevate the experience, you can purchase accessories such as the ROG Kunai Gamepad.
If you are into smartphone gaming or simply want the best possible performance from a blazing fast Android flagship, it’s probably good news for you that ASUS ROG Phone II preorders have started. However, for an average user, the differences between this phone and a model underpinned by the Snapdragon 855 might not be so pronounced.
