In a time when all the talk is about Android 10, it is rare to stumble upon an announcement about a device receiving the Android 9 Pie update. Now, a lot of devices are still stuck on Oreo/Nougat and probably will be forever, but taking over a year to deliver a major software upgrade is plain lazy. This week some LG G6 users on Verizon and based in Europe will be pleased to know that they'll finally be at the receiving end of the Android Pie update. The build was leaked a few months ago and its surprising that it took LG this long to deploy it. If you happen to be one of them, savor it, as this is the last major software upgrade you'll ever get.

Verizon confirmed yesterday that Android Pie was making its way to its LG G6 devices. It bears build number VS98830a and contains the Android Security patches for August 1, 2019, along with the Android Pie goodies. Alternatively, G6 owners in the EU have started getting their Pie update, according to numerous reports on XDA and Reddit.

The build includes standard Android 9 goodies such as two-button gesture navigation, volume button media controls, and the likes. The Android 9 Pie update for Verizon is only available as an OTA. In the EU, users can sideload the build via a computer with the help of LG Bridge or over the air. According to the LG G6 Subreddit, the speeds are awfully slow, so you may have to wait for a bit before you get your slice of the Pie. There are no apparent bugs at the moment, and the battery life seems to be fine for most users too. The timing is more or less on point, considering that LG promised that the G6 would get it in Q3 2019. It'd have been better if it had made its way earlier, but such is life.
