Electronic Arts just announced via press release that it's bringing its games back to Steam, as well as the EA Access subscription service. A rumor had emerged yesterday as you might recall.
EA Access will launch in Spring 2020, but individual games will be available much earlier starting with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, already available for pre-order on Valve's store ahead of the November 15th global release.
That said, a quick look at the Steam page reveals gamers will still need an EA account, EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use.
Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, said in a statement:
This is the start of an exciting partnership with Valve that will see us innovating for PC players around the world. Through our subscription, great games and more, we’re excited to bring players in the Steam and Origin communities together with access to the best games, whenever and wherever they want to play.
Gabe Newell added:
This is a good day for gamers. We’re excited to partner with EA to not only bring their great games and subscription service to Steam but also to open up our communities to each other in an unprecedented way that will benefit players and developers around the world.
Prior to the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the last Electronic Arts title to be launched on Steam was the DLC The Sims 3 - Into the Future, released on October 23rd, 2013. After that date, all EA games on PC became only available through Origin.
The press release also mentions the upcoming launch of The Sims 4 and Unravel 2 on Steam in the 'coming months', while other titles such as Apex Legends, FIFA 20 and Battlefield V will be available through Valve's platform at some point in 2020 with cross-play multiplayer enabled between Origin and Steam users.
