Apple has released a minor revision for HomePod in the form of iOS 13.2.1, which aims to fix the bricking issue that users were reporting. Apple had pulled iOS 13.2 update once reports widely spread regarding bricked HomePods.
Users had reported that their HomePod would get stuck in a boot loop after updating to iOS 13.2 software update. Factory resetting did not work at this stage for users. Users were advised not to remove the HomePod from their Home app or restart it.
As there was no fix, users had to send HomePods back to Apple for repair. Some users successfully got a working replacement for their bricked devices, as we previously reported:
In case you have not updated your HomePod yet, we suggest that you don’t, until Apple shares an update. If you are already stuck with a bricked HomePod, you should call Apple and report the issue. You might need to visit the Apple Store to get a replacement unit.

iOS 13.2.1 provides support for new HomePod features:
- The ability for HomePod to recognize the voices of different family members to provide a personalized experience
- Handoff music, podcasts, or phone calls by bringing your iPhone close to HomePod
- Add music to your HomeKit scenes
- Play relaxing high-quality soundtracks with Ambient Sounds
- Set sleep timers to fall asleep to music or Ambient Sounds
Apple has not mentioned any fix for the bricking issue, but it is safe to assume that the fix is part of the update.
There have not been any reports of issues with this new update, so we recommend that you go ahead and install it on your HomePod. To download the update, open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Tap the home icon and scroll down to find the Software Update option.
Before Apple goes ahead and releases HomePod minis, it would be great if they fix their software issues first. Apple's 2019 has been part of flawed software updates. The company's lack of transparency and open communication means that users are mostly left in the dark on what Apple is doing to tackle these issues. As a rule of thumb, always wait before jumping into software updates so that you do not end up with non-functional devices. Specially if you live in an area which does not have an Apple Store nearby.
