TikTok's parent company Bytedance was reportedly working on a smartphone for the better half of this year. The company was reportedly partnering up with Chinese smartphone manufacturer Snartisan to release a range of smartphones that would span across all segments. Smartisan doesn't have much a presence outside of China but has a cult following in the country due to its CEO's flamboyant personality. In what can be described as one of the best starts to 'no nut November', TikTok and Smartisan announced the release of their first-ever smartphone: The Nut Pro 3
The Nut Pro 3 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC and a quad-camera setup
The Nut Pro 3—for all practical purposes—is a flagship device. It comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC coupled with 8 GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. The display features a 6.39-inch AMOLED panel with a 2340 x 1080 resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It has a waterdrop style notch that houses the selfie camera. The primary camera array consists of a Sony IMX586 48MP f/1.75 sensor paired with a 13MP 1.12um ultrawide angle camera with a 123° FOV. There is also an 8MP telephoto camera and a 5MP macro camera. Smartisan says they added an algorithm that intelligently corrects distortion when using the ultrawide angle camera. The selfie camera is a 20MP Samsung 3T1 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and 1.8um pixel size. The hardware is powered by a 4,000mAh battery with support for 9V/2A and 5V/3A fast charging. And no, there's no headphone jack. Curiously enough, there's no NFC either. There's no word on what version of Android it will run, but I wouldn't bet on Android 10.
Considering that Bytedance has a say in the development process, the Nut Pro 3 will let users launch Douyin — the Chinese version of TikTok — by swiping up on the lock screen. Additionally, there's also an option to apply TikTok effects and filters to videos of any length. We can also expect it to come pre-loaded with a bevy of Bytedance apps and services. For now, the handset is touted for release only in the Chinese market and will retail at in 2,899 yuan (about $412.) There is no mention of an international release just yet, and the chances of that seem low, considering that Snartisan has next to no presence outside of China. Perhaps Bytedance could use some of its TikTokbucks to release the handset in markets such as India, where TikTok is hugely popular among users.
