Now that we’re finally getting some steady reports concerning Apple’s upcoming AR headset launch, it looks like the product might materialize during the second half of 2020. To top it all off looks like there’s a new player in town that’s expected to help Apple make this launch a possibility and surprisingly, the report mentions U.S. game developer Valve.

Report Mentions the Role of Valve in Expediting Apple’s AR Headset Launch - Digital Content Expected to Increase

DigiTimes is back with more information stating that Apple has partnered with game maker Valve to push its AR headset launch for an H2 2020 unveiling. It’s currently unclear what’s Valve role will be in all of this, but it is mentioned that Apple’s Taiwanese partners, Quanta Computer and Pegatron are expected to handle the assembly part of the job. In case you didn’t know, Quanta is also reportedly responsible for delivering 16-inch MacBook Pro shipments to Apple during the fourth quarter of 2019.

“Apple reportedly has partnered with US game developer Valve to develop AR head-mounted display devices, which may be released in the second half of 2020 at the earliest, with Taiwan's ODMs Quanta Computer and Pegatron said to handle the assembly job, according to industry sources.”

DigiTimes earlier reported that the AR headset project was apparently scrapped, but a different set of info released in the future stated that a fresh Apple job shift would be responsible for making sure that the product should materialize in the future. As for Apple’s partnership with Valve concerning its AR headset launch, it appears as though the game developer will be focused on making AR-related content and not VR-related.

If you want more evidence concerning an imminent AR headset launch, it was spotted in iOS 13, where some snippets revealed that the augmented reality-based headset is codenamed, ‘Garta’ and a ‘StarBoard’ mode that includes several ‘views’ and ‘scenes’. As for what operating system the new product will run, previously unearthed rumors suggested that Apple will employ the use of a custom OS that’s based on iOS, and is dubbed ‘rOS’ for ‘reality operating system’.

While the following information isn’t confirmed, it’s possible the upcoming AR headset launch will commence alongside new and efficient ARM-powered Macs next year.
