How to Create A Recovery Disk on Windows 10

Fahad Chandio

Is Windows 10 acting up on your PC? Are you facing unnecessary lags and crashes more often than usual? These are symptoms of corruption within your operating system but not all is lost as you can still utilize the functional state of your Windows to create a Recovery Disk that essentially backs up your Windows image inclusive of the system files to preserve the environment of your PC for future restoration.

This process would not back up your desktop or personal files. However, they can always be backed up manually via the cloud such as OneDrive or with an external hard drive. The recovery disk stores up the current attributes and files of your Windows image so that when it stalls completely then you have a fighting chance to restore the operating system from the recovery drive. Here’s how you can create a recovery drive:

    1. Plug a USB or DVD drive into your PC.
    2. Open the Start menu and type recovery drive in the search bar. Click on the Recovery Drive app to proceed.
    3. Once in the Recovery Drive wizard, simply click on Next to continue with the process.
    4. The recovery drive wizard will scan your PC for available recovery drives i.e. the USB or DVD drive that you plugged in. Please note that this might take some time.

    1. Now you will be prompted to select the drive that you wish to use as the recovery drive. Click on Next once you’ve made the selection.
    2. The drive will be formatted and everything will be wiped clean before the process starts. Therefore, please ensure that you do not have any important data on the drive. Click on Create to start the process.

  1. The system will not begin to copy the primary system files and settings that are linked to the Windows 10 environment on your PC. This entire procedure could take from 15 to 30 minutes to complete depending on the system performance.
  2. You will be notified when the recovery drive is ready to go and the process has been finalized. Simply click on Finish to exit the wizard.

This recovery drive can be a lifesaver as this would prevent your Windows 10 experience from going sour if your operating system decides to give up on you in the distant future. All you have to do is put your PC into recovery mode and boot up from the recovery drive. Voila! you're saved from a world of disappointment.
