  1. Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager from the pop-up menu.

  2. In the Device Manager, you can view all the hardware present in your PC lined up in an alphabetic order.
  3. Simply select the hardware drop-down that is malfunctioning and, in this case, we have the Mice and other pointing devices tab. Your mouse could be registering ghost touches or not responding to scroll commands, and this resolves the issue in most cases.
  4. Right-click on the device that is malfunctioning and select Update driver to proceed.

  5. The Update Drivers wizard would ask you if you wish to search for updated driver software automatically or browse your computer for driver software. You can click on Search automatically for updated driver software to minimize the hassle and let your computer do all the hard work as it will search online for the latest driver updates that are available for your hardware. But if you already have pre-downloaded a driver for your hardware and it is onboard your computer’s hard drive then click on Browse my computer for driver software, select the file and it would install the hardware accordingly.
  6. If you went for the first option, the system will now search for the updated driver software for the hardware that you selected. This process could take up to a few minutes to complete.
  7. The update wizard will prompt Installing drivers... once an appropriate update has been located and commences the installation automatically.
  8. The system will inform you once the driver has been successfully updated but you will have to restart your PC in order for the updated driver to kick in. Click on Close to exit.
  9. In order to view the updated driver changes made, Right-click on the hardware device from the Device Manager again as in Step 4 and select Properties.
  10. The device status will inform you that The device is working properly. Switch to the Driver tab to learn more about the installed driver.
  11. You can view details such as the Driver Provider, Driver Date, Driver Version, in the Drivers tab. This could help you verify whether or not the latest driver installed was successful. Click on OK to exit.
