Apple has revealed its entire plan for the Apple Watch in its opening keynote at WWDC 2020. There is a lot to digest and the final software will be available for download some time later this year. But, if you are a registered developer, you can go ahead right now to download and install watchOS 7 beta onto your compatible Apple Watch right away.

Here is the complete list of Apple Watches compatible with watchOS 7 beta:

  • Apple Watch Series 5
  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 3

But before you do that, there are a few things you should know about. First and foremost, this is unfinished software, which means it is not meant to be used as a daily driver at all. You can expect all sorts of crazy and wild bugs during everyday use. Secondly, once you do upgrade to the watchOS beta, you cannot downgrade back no matter what you did. Note: Please know all the risks before going ahead. There are a ton of things that can go wrong while testing a beta. We really can't emphasize on this enough. It is best that you hold back for a couple of betas before installing it on your Apple Watch. If you are still feeling adventurous, then go ahead on your own risk.

Quick Checklist

  • Make sure your Apple Watch is placed on its charger
  • Make sure you have 50% or more battery on both your iPhone and Apple Watch
  • Make sure you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network

Tutorial

Step 1. You must have a fully working developer account with Apple. You can sign up for it here. Remember, it's not free, and it will set you back $99 on an yearly basis.

Step 2. Log into the Apple Developer Program website on your iPhone.

Step 3. Tap on Downloads.

Step 4. Under Featured Downloads you will see the watchOS 7 beta. Right next to it there's a big blue Download button, tap on it.

Step 5. You will be required to install a beta profile onto your iPhone, so please follow the on-screen steps on how to do so. You may be required to authorize the profile by going to Settings > General > Profiles.

Step 6. You will be required to restart your iPhone, so please do so at this point.

Step 7. Once booted back up, launch the Watch app on your iPhone then navigate to General > Software Update.

Step 8. watchOS 7 beta is now ready to download. Tap on Download and Install.

Step 9. Once the download is complete, your iPhone will start preparing the update for installation, and eventually it will be installed on your Apple Watch.

Remember, major software updates take a long while to install, therefore do not do anything with your iPhone or Apple Watch during installation. Even when the installation is complete, it's best that you leave your iPhone and Apple Watch on their charger for a bit - at least an hour.
