There's no doubt that Apple is working on its upcoming item-tracking AirTags accessory. We have been hearing details on it for a long time through leaks, rumors, as well as references to the tracker in iOS 13. As it was previously revealed, the AirTags will integrate with the company's Find My app in iOS 14. The accessory will basically allow users to find lost items that they have tagged. It is now revealed that you can access the hidden "Items" tab in iOS 14 right now.
You Can See The Hidden "Items" Tab Through Safari on Your iPhone or iPad Ahead of AirTags Launch
The screenshots were initially obtained by MacRumors back in 2019 and it was revealed that the AirTags will be managed through the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. As we have mentioned earlier, you can now access the hidden "Items" tab in iOS 14 right away through the Safari app. The company has also opened the Find My app for third-party accessory-makers to take advantage of the feature. If you're interested, you can take a look at the tab yourself on your iPhone. All you have to do is open Safari on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 14.3 or newer versions and make a little search. Simply type the following text in the search field:
“findmy://items.”
Once you do that, simply select Open from the search prompt. It will open the hidden "Items" tab in the Find My app. Another major aspect to note here is that this nifty trick will work on your Mac as well. On your Mac running macOS Big Sur, launch Safari and type the aforementioned text in the search field.
Third-party accessories will appear in the same "Items" tab once the AirTags are released and the feature goes live. Potentially, there will be a dedicated way to access the Items tab rather than a workaround, As for now, AirTags are expected to be released in March of this year alongside Apple's forthcoming iOS 14.4. AirTags were previously rumored to arrive with the release of iOS 14.3 but that did not pan out. Based on leaks and rumors, the AirTags has also been teased in 3D renders which you can check out.
Other than this, the AirTags will potentially feature the U1 UWB chip which is also present inside iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 series. The chip will allow users to precisely locate the item that they have tagged to. The location tracking accessory is seen to feature a circular design with a metal disk on the bottom portion.
