Buying a Mac does not mean (in any way) that you won't run into issues from time to time. After all, it's a machine that is bound to hit a roadblock. Problems ranging from bad battery life to poor Bluetooth performance is very normal. Software updates tend to fix them over time as well.
Today, we are going to talk about Bluetooth across all Macs, Intel and M1 both, and how you can reset the Bluetooth module in order to bring some normalcy into your life. If you are experiencing issues with connected devices, such as choppy audio over Bluetooth headphones, missed keystrokes with a connected keyboard, then hopefully doing a module reset should fix a lot of things for you.
Note: The steps for doing this might be slightly different on older versions of macOS. This may or may not fix Bluetooth dropout issues with M1 Macs. Apple has promised a software fix for it in the future.
Tutorial
Step 1. Find the Bluetooth icon in the Menu Bar. It literally looks like the Bluetooth logo
Note: If you do not see the Bluetooth icon in the Menu Bar, you can enable it by going to System Preferences > Bluetooth and check Show Bluetooth in menu bar
Step 2. Hold down the Shift + Option keys on the keyboard
Step 3. With that key combination held down, click on the Bluetooth icon
Step 4. Over here you will see a bunch of handy options including one for reseting the Bluetooth module. Click on: Reset the Bluetooth module
Step 5. You will now get a warning to confirm your action, click on OK
Now your Bluetooth module is in a factory state. If you have been facing issues with your Bluetooth headphones, mouse or keyboard, it should be fixed after this reset. However, it may or may not fix Bluetooth issues on M1 powered Macs. Wait for the macOS 11.2 Big Sur update to arrive to fix those woes instead.
