Learn to Calibrate the Auto Brightness Feature on iPhone and iPad for Perfect Brightness Every Single Time

Automatic brightness is a feature we take for granted in a smartphone or a tablet. Just imagine for a second if the feature just wasn't there at all these days. We would be manually adjusting the brightness on our devices half the time. Thankfully, our devices have gotten so smart that they even adjust the white balance based on our surroundings.

However, the automatic brightness feature may not work as intended at times. This includes situations like 'too little' brightness in broad daylight, or 'too much' when the lights are off. Don't worry, your phone or tablet isn't broken at all. In today's tutorial, we will show you how you can calibrate the Auto Brightness feature on your iPhone and iPad which will result in spot-on automatic brightness adjustments all the time.

Tutorial

Note: Please make sure you have Auto Brightness enabled in the first place for this to work. You can do so by going to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and enable Auto-Brightness from here.

Step 1. On your iPhone or iPad, launch Settings

Step 2. Tap on Display & Brightness

Step 3. Make sure every single light is off in the room you are in for this to work. It should be pitch black

Step 4. Drag the brightness slider to the point where you believe it's appropriate for the pitch black lighting condition and leave it there. You can make micro-adjustments if you believe it feels off

Step 5. Turn the lights on and your iPhone and iPad will use the pitch black brightness as a reference point for changing lighting conditions

Surprisingly, this trick works on a lot of Android devices as well, but your mileage may vary. For me, it has been a bulletproof method calibrating Auto Brightness feature on the iPhone and iPad.

Alternatively, you can also reset Auto Brightness on iPhone and iPad by simply going to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, then disable and then re-enable Auto-Brightness from here.

If none of the methods work, then there is a chance that the ambient light sensor on your device might be broken. You'll need more than calibration to fix it. Therefore it's a good idea to take your device in for an expert hardware diagnosis and repair if needed.
