Multitasking became the new norm during the pandemic, and Microsoft tried to make this a part of the new Windows 11 OS. The Snap Layouts feature helps in work management by allowing you to use multiple windows simultaneously. This tutorial will show you how to disable or enable the Snap Layouts feature on Windows 11.
Disable or Enable Snap Layouts
If you hover your cursor on the maximize button, you will get four options of snap layouts. You can also use the shortcut keys Win + Z. These layouts are like a collage, and you can position your windows in any of these four layouts. These layouts make task switching easier, and if you are working on multiple projects at once, you don’t have to use the Alt + Tab shortcut keys to navigate between windows. You can switch the windows in the layout.
Enable Snap Layouts in Settings
Step-1: Open Windows Settings. There are different ways you can access Settings.
- Right-click on the Start menu and select Settings.
- You can also click on the Start menu icon and click on the Settings cog.
- You can press the Win + I keys on your keyboard.
Step-2: Select System from the left pane.
Step-3: Scroll down and select the Multitasking option.
Step-4: Turn the toggle switch On next to Snap windows.
Step-5: Click on the Snap windows option to expand it, and you will see many different options. You can check or uncheck options as you choose. Just make sure that the Show snap layouts when I hover over a window’s maximize button is checked.

Registry Editor
You can enable or disable the layouts feature in the Registry Editor as well.
Step-1: Using the Win + R keys to open the Run box.
Step-2: Type regedit and press Enter.
Step-3: You will be asked, do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? Click Yes.
Step-4: Type the following path in the navigation bar at the top of the editor and press enter:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Step-5: Right-click in the left pane, hover the cursor on New, and select DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Step-6: Name this value as EnableSnapAssistFlyout.
Step-7: Double-click on this newly created DWORD. Enter the following in the Value data field according to what you want:
Enable Snap Layouts – 1
Disable Snap Layouts – 0
