If you were tired of those old Surface Book designs, then Microsoft has announced the brand new and redesigned Surface Laptop Studio. The biggest highlight of the machine is that it sports a flexible hinge that supports a variety of modes in order to make it easier to finish different tasks.
Surface Laptop Studio Supports a 120Hz Refresh Rate With a Smaller 14.4-inch Screen
The Surface Laptop Studio can function as a regular clamshell laptop, but its flexible and durable hinge helps transition the display to support a variety of modes. You can switch between laptop, stage, and studio modes, depending on what you are doing, and the 14.4-inch PixelSense display will feel extremely fluid thanks to that 120Hz refresh rate with Dolby Vision support.
The Surface Laptop Studio also supports the Surface Slim Pen 2, which could be tucked inside the Signature Keyboard accessory of the Surface Pro 8. The laptop mode is pretty straightforward, but the stage mode is where you can use the notebook to pull the display forward for when you want to showcase a presentation or do some streaming. This mode prevents you from accessing the keyboard unfortunately but allows for creative professionals to play around with the display.
Like the Surface Pro 8, Microsoft has transitioned to USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports with the Surface Laptop Studio, but you will only find two of them on the entire machine, followed by the Surface Connect charging port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The internal specifications of the Surface Laptop Studio include Intel’s 11th-generation processors up to a quad-core for some reason, along with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti GPU.
These internals show that the machine can do some casual gaming, but if you will be doing something serious, connect an eGPU solution to the Surface Laptop Studio. As for availability, Microsoft says that the Surface Laptop Studio will be available on October 5, after the launch of Windows 11. Sadly, pricing is something that was not discussed during the announcement.
