First, let's talk about the PNY Pro Elite 1TB USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Portable Solid State Drive.

PNY Pro Elite 1TB USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Portable Solid State Drive

This small, pocket-size SSD drive comes in three flavors—250GB, 500GB, and 1TB of space. It offers read/write speeds that are so close to each other that it was hard to distinguish which was better. The read speeds are up to 890MB/s of sequential read speeds, and 880MB/s of sequential write speeds. When I was transferring up to 20GBs of movie files and random documents back and forth from the device to my computer and back, I experienced a wait time of under ten seconds! It was amazing how fast the drive was transferring files in both directions with little lag whatsoever. It is compatible with both USB Type-A and Type-C ports on PC and Mac laptops and desktops. They even include a cable to supply for both. My particular Acer Aspire 5 laptop only has the capability of USB-A compatibility, so to have an older yet compatible cable was not only needed but a welcome accessory from PNY.

The size, as stated before, is incredibly small that it can easily be fit into pockets, messenger bags, briefcases, backpacks—it almost is limitless the possibilities of carrying it around discreetly. It measures 5.25 x 4 x 1.25 inches. It could pass as a small stack of credit cards. Being able to travel easily with the 1TBs of storage is great when anyone from students, professionals, content creators, gamers, teachers—there are several possibilities that this could be utilized in everyday use. I even added it to my EDC Writing Pack that I carry around with me every week.

PNY Technologies includes Acronis True Image data protection software to help protect files. As I become more active doing photography, videography, content creation, etc., having that data protection is a serious must, and is another welcome feature to the 1TB SSD drive. PNY is fantastic with their warranty, offering a competitive three-year warranty with 24/7 Technical Support, based out of the United States offices.

You can pick up the PNY Pro Elite 1TB USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Portable Solid State Drive (PSD0CS2060-1TB-RB) for $104.99 on Amazon, as well as the 250GB for $59.99 and 500GB versions for $69.99 as well.

PNY 512GB Elite-X Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive

The PNY 512GB Elite-X Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive is honestly one of the favorite things I love about minimalistic storage solutions. No bigger than the size of either one of my thumbnails, the Elite-X Fit Flash Drive offers amazing performance with little footprint size.

Things that really stuck out to me were not only the physical size of it but that it remains backward compatible with previous USB 2.0 ports. That means that dinosaurs like me can depend on being able to retrieve files on a number of systems. I experienced extremely fast read speeds, which were very close to the quoted speeds of 200MB/s that PNY advertises. The biggest issue with my laptop is that I cannot have a ton of applications or large documents unless I offload them to something. Having a thumb drive does just that, and with the operating system (at the current writing, I have not yet upgraded to Microsoft Windows 11, and I am running the Windows 10 Home Version). It only has 128GBs on board the laptop, so adding additional file space is a huge need, and I welcome any ability to discretely have an additional storage slot for documents and applications to be stored.

I have not tried previous PNY USB 2.0 drives that they have offered in the past, but in looking at Amazon, they state that the transfer speeds are 30x faster on the PNY 512GB Elite-X USB 3.1 Flash Drive. It definitely was as fast if not faster than the current Samsung Fit drives on my laptop.

The company states that the drive can be used anywhere, but two things that stuck out the most were game consoles and automobiles. I was unable to check that with my current setups, but I am sure that with how easy it was to access documents on the drive I had at my disposal, and with PNY Technologies history, these will probably work with ease.

You can get the PNY Elite-X Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive in four sizes— the 64GB model for the low price of $10.99, the 128GB model for $19.99, the 256GB model for $36.99, and the 512GB model for $64.99 on Amazon.

Conclusion

The super small and light form factor of the PNY Pro Elite 1TB USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Portable Solid State Drive and the incredibly tiny but mighty The PNY Elite-X Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive is fantastic for anyone looking to safely transfer documents to both PC and Mac, and with PNY's history of storage solutions, you cannot go wrong with either memory device. Both are widely compatible, and super fast, which in today's world is perfect for almost anyone in any situation.
