The first consumer platform to support DDR4 memory was Intel's Skylake Z170 family & the respective Z170 motherboards. The memory initially came with native speeds of 2133 MHz but since then, AMD and Intel, have modified their platforms to not only support faster native clock speeds but also allow for higher clocked DIMMs to be supported by XMP profiles that have been tuned specifically by the motherboard manufacturers to support a large range of memory kits with clock speeds beyond the native design.

With the launch of Intel's 12th Generation Desktop CPUs, we got to see the brand new Alder Lake-S Z690 platform which features improved I/O and support for fast DDR4 memory up to speeds of 5000 MHz. Today, I will be taking a look at how well the performance of DDR4 scales against DDR5 on the Alder Lake platform.

V-Color PRISM Pro RGB Golden ARMIS 32 GB DDR4 Memory Kit Specifications

Many of our US readers may not have heard of V-Color but the company was established in 2006 by a team of experts, specializing in DRAM module testing. V-Color's primary based on operations is situated in Taipei, Taiwan but their products are available across the globe. The company has a primary focus in the DRAM and Flash product markets, with their lead products more often being memory kits and SSDs.

While V-Color offers several DD4 memory kits, their flagship product for 2019 was the PRISM II RGB series which is an upgrade to their original PRISM RGB series modules. The company has moved to a more aggressively priced solution that is pitted against other RGB kits but at a much better value proposition. For 2022, V-Color has introduced their latest PRISM PRO series which offers premium aesthetics with faster clocks and tighter timings thanks to higher binned DRAM ICs. They sent me their latest DDR4-5066 memory kit for review, the PRISM PRO RGB GOLDEN ARMIS.

The V-Color PRISM PRO RGB GOLDEN ARMIS 32 GB DDR4 memory kit is designed to offer great aesthetics with great value and as such, this RGB emblazed kit can be found for $88.99 US which is comparatively cheaper to other RGB DDR4 kits in the market. The kit we received is optimized at a clock speed of 3600 MHz. The memory kit consists of dual 8 GB DIMMs which make up a total of 32 GB in capacity. Some main features of the V-Color PRISM II RGB DDR4 series are listed below:

  • Brand new design with spectacular texture.
  • Full customization of colors on the Light Bar.
  • Each Overclocking IC is selected under rigorous testing techniques with auto sorting equipment designed by v-color.
  • PRISM II is compatible with both INTEL and AMD platforms, XMP 2.0 supports automatic overclocking.
  • V-color PRISM II RGB Series will Synchronize across ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, ASRock boards.
  • Features speed of 5066 Mbps
  • Lifetime Warranty

The memory kit has a tested latency spec of CL20 and the timings are 20-30-30-50 for this specific kit. The voltage set at reference is 1.6V and the memory kit comes in an unbuffered package with a non-ECC (Error Correction) design. The memory kit is fully compliant with Intel's XMP 2.0 and can be easily set to its rated clock speeds through the BIOS shipped on the latest Intel motherboards.

  • Module Type: PRISM PRO RGB Golden ARMIS U-DIMM
  • Memory Type: DDR4 288 Pin Unbuffered DIMM Non-ECC
  • Capacity: 8GBx2
  • Frequency: 5066 Mbps
  • Latency: CL20-30-30-50
