There is no denying that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are two of the most impressive Android devices in the market right now. If you are in search of a cutting-edge combination of hardware and software, then these phones will feel right at home. However, in their stock software configuration, you might not like the phones as much and well, there is a way to change that by simply unlocking the bootloader.

Now, I do have to mention that unlocking the bootloader is not going to get you far as you will have to root the phone in order to start the customization process but we will do a separate rooting guide for those who are interested in going ahead and tinkering with their device.

Steps to Unlock the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Bootloader

The process of unlocking the bootloader on your Pixel 6 or the Pixel 6 Pro is not at all difficult. Quite the opposite, to be honest as it is one of the easiest things. Still, we are going to take a look at how to carry on with the process.

An important thing that you should remember is that it will wipe your device, so I would always suggest that you back up your phone before you follow the tutorial.

  1. Go to Settings > About Phone > tap on the build number 7 times until you see a message saying 'You are now a developer!'
  2. Back to the main settings and look for Developer Options > OEM Unlock and USB Debugging and enable these.
  3. Download and install the ADB on your PC from here and be sure to do it on the desktop for easier access.
  4. Connect your Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro to your computer using a USB cable.
  5. Go to the folder where you installed the ADB and Fastboot.
  6. Open a command prompt in that folder and if you are prompted for UAC, click on Yes to allow admin access.
  7. Type the following command in the window and press enter to check if your device is connected or not.

    adb devices

  8. If the device is connected, you will get a device ID, if not, then you will need to install the Google USB drivers again and reboot your computer.
  9. Once everything is ready, run the following command.

    adb reboot bootloader

  10. Now, you will need to run the following command to unlock the bootloader.

    fastboot flashing unlock

  11. Go ahead and reboot your device using the following code.

    fastboot reboot
