How to enable video captions on Instagram

Instagram for iPhone and Android can generate captions for videos that you are watching. Here's how to enable the feature.

Enable Captions for Videos in Instagram for iPhone and Android in a Few Easy Steps

First and foremost, it's better to get this out of the way immediately - this feature is available in some regions only and currently only works with the English language. If you don't see the feature or simply can't enable it, then it is a fairly good idea to wait this one out until it becomes available. Furthermore, the captions might not be super accurate as they are being generated on the fly but it is good enough for a lot of cases and will get the point across.

Now, why would you want to enable this feature? There could be a lot of reasons. But the number one reason being - you forgot your headphones and you don't want to be that guy in a public place, forcing everyone to listen to what you are. In that case, this feature is super duper handy for keeping things as quiet as possible.

You get to consume your content on mute, and no one else gets bothered by it. It's a complete win-win situation.

Once this feature is enabled, this is what the auto-generated captions will look like:

This feature is extremely handy, needless to say. We took the feature for a spin on a number of videos and it was pretty spot on as well. But again, this feature might not work everywhere across Instagram, especially Stories. As long as the video is in your regular timeline, it will play along nicely.

There are similar features on different social networks as well such as TikTok, where captions are generated on the fly so you get to read what the creator is saying. Again, it's a nifty feature for times when you just want to read instead of listening for whatever reason.
