Accidentally switched to the MiniPlayer on your Mac and want to revert back to the full size Music app? Here's how you do it.
Want to Switch to Full Size iTunes or Music App from MiniPlayer? It's Not so Obvious but Very Possible
Apple has made some weird and wonderful decisions in the past and then there are some that make absolutely zero sense. Take the MiniPlayer from iTunes (now Music) as an example. While it's a great way to keep track of the music and content being played in a nice, compact UI, but if you're new to the Mac then you have already discovered that there's no obvious way to switch back to the full size player, at first.
See, while you can switch to the MiniPlayer right from the main iTunes or Music app by clicking on the tiny album art, there's no (obvious way) button to make you switch back to the main, full size player. What if you force quit the app and launch it again? Well, you will jump into the MiniPlayer, again.
So, how do you switch from the MiniPlayer to the full size player? Here's how and it's actually very not obvious if you're new to this.
You just have to click on the red 'x' button on the top left hand corner. That's it. There is nothing else you have to do. And in case you're wondering, the escape key on the keyboard does nothing if you're in the MiniPlayer mode.
The sight of the full size player always makes us feel great about ourselves for some reason.
In case you're wondering how you can switch to the MiniPlayer in the first place, then it's actually quite easy, and not so obvious at first. Just click on the tiny album art next to the playback controls as shown in the screenshot below.
While in the full size view of iTunes or Music, clicking on the red button on the top left hand corner will simply take the player away from view. You have to invoke it again from the Dock to bring it into view. But for some reason, Apple thinks that clicking on the same button in the MiniPlayer mode should take you back to the full size player.
After all these years, I've still not accepted how this works and why!
