While many of us tend to upgrade to a new device every year, we tend to ignore one important aspect of the whole thing - whether or not the old device remains linked to your Apple ID. This is very important, because if you are not using your device and you gave it away to someone or even if it's still sitting in your drawer, the device is still signed in to your Apple ID which can lead to potential bad things. We just won't get into those things now, but what's important here is that you remove all devices from your current Apple ID just to keep things nice and safe.

Tutorial

Step 1. Launch the Settings app from your Home Screen.

Step 2. Right at the top you'll see your Apple ID / name. Tap on it to open.

Step 3. Wait for this page to load up and you'll see all your linked devices at the bottom. Find the one which you think shouldn't be there or needs to be removed and tap on it.

Step 4. Now simply tap on Remove from Account and confirm your action if required.

Repeat the steps for every single device which you don't want associated with your Apple ID. If you find a device in there which you think never belonged to you then it's a solid idea to go right ahead and change your Apple ID password as well.

It is always a good practice to look into your Apple ID associated devices from time to time. And to keep things nice protected, make sure you have two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID so that no one else can use it.

There are a ton of ways to keep your Apple ID safe and secure, but it's a good idea to start from the most basic of things - by making sure that the devices you give away have been properly signed out and are not associated with your Apple ID at all. It's really not that much of a task and it only requires a few seconds of your time every now and then as well.
