Adjust Magic Keyboard key brightness from Control Center on iPad

You can adjust the iPad Pro and iPad Air Magic Keyboard accessory's key brightness right from Control Center. Here's how to set it up.

Adjust Magic Keyboard Key Brightness Straight from Control Center Using a Dedicated Option on both iPad Pro and iPad Air

Sometimes, Apple will do odd things in order to alter or customize something so obvious. Such as the brightness of the Magic Keyboard keys for the iPad Air and iPad Pro. There's no key on the keyboard itself which makes this possible. You have to jump into settings, dig into a few menus and make changes from there. Not convenient at all, if you prefer doing things manually.

However, you actually have the option to add a toggle switch to Control Center, allowing you to make key brightness adjustments on the fly. It's not convenient as a dedicated button on the keyboard itself, but it's better than digging into menus in order to make a small change to brightness.

Here's how you can set it up instantly.

Tutorial

Step 1. Launch the Settings app on your iPad with the Magic Keyboard connected.

Step 2. Tap on Control Center.

Step 3. Find the toggle switch called Keyboard Brightness.

Step 4. Tap on the + sign next to it in order to add it to Control Center. You know it's added to Control Center when you see it under the 'Included Controls' section with a minus sign next to it, as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 5. Slide down from the top right hand corner of the display to bring in Control Center.

Step 6. Now tap on the Keyboard Brightness switch as shown in the screenshot below.

Step 7. Make adjustments to the brightness and then simply dismiss.

Adjusting the keyboard key brightness using this method is absolutely wonderful. But, I will still highly recommend leaving the automatic brightness setting on since it selects the best possible brightness level, depending on the ambient light. Obviously, if you prefer taking control of things then this Control Center toggle switch is the way to go and I'm certain you'll quickly get the hang of it.

I still wish there was a dedicated key on the keyboard for adjusting brightness. Not that I'm a fan of it myself, but it sits well with people who want to instantly make changes without digging into menus. Who knows, Apple might just deliver with new Magic Keyboard hardware.
