You Can Send and Receive GIFs Using iMessage on iPhone and iPad, Here's How to Set it up and Use it

iMessage reactions are cool, but you know what's cooler? GIFs. Given how often we turn to GIFs to get the point or reaction across, it's surprising that Apple has no built-in search engine for GIFs although there is full support for sending and viewing them. Thankfully, using an app from the App Store, you will be sending and receiving GIFs using iMessage in no time.

The app we are talking about is GIPHY, which happens to be a GIF search engine and one of the biggest repositories for GIFs on the internet. So, if you haven't downloaded and installed the app, we suggest doing so by going to this link. Once installed, we will show you how you can send GIFs using iMessage using GIPHY.

Tutorial

Note: Make sure you run the GIPHY app at least once before going ahead.

Step 1. Assuming you have the GIPHY app installed on your iPhone and iPad, launch Messages.

Step 2. Open up any iMessage chat.

Step 3. Right above the keyboard you'll see a bunch of apps. Scroll through them until you see GIPHY as shown in the screenshot below. Tap on it.

Step 4. Search for a GIF you want to send or you can simply find one from the Trending section of the app, it's entirely up to you how you want to go about this.

Step 5. Once you've found the GIF you want to send, simply tap on it and it will appear in the text field after which you can send it to the other person.

Step 6. Profit.

Interestingly, you're not limited to just GIPHY. If you like, you can download some other app as well. But the way GIPHY works, it's far more convenient compared to anything else out there.

Last but not the least, you do have the option to simply 'copy' a GIF from somewhere else and paste it into the text field in iMessage and send that instead. That process is obviously not convenient and requires a few extra steps.
