However, using any audio device for a prolonged period of time at high volumes can cause temporary or permanent damage to your ears. If you do not want that to happen at all, then you will be pleased to learn that your iPhone and iPad can tell you whether you are listening to stuff at acceptable levels. It is a handy little feature that lives in Control Center and we will show you how to enable and use it right now.

Tutorial

Note: Please connect your AirPods to your iPhone and iPad for this to work.

Step 1. Launch the Settings app from the Home Screen on your iPhone and iPad.

Step 2. Tap on Control Center.

Step 3. Add the Hearing toggle switch from here.

Step 4. Now bring up Control Center from swiping down from the top right hand corner of the display. Or, swipe up from the bottom of the display if you have an iPhone with a Home button.

Step 5. Here, you'll see the new toggle switch which looks like an ear. Start playing some music or anything at all, you'll see the audio levels appear instantly. But that's not all, you can tap on the icon to get a more detailed view.

It's best that you do not overdo the volume and keep it in the green at all times. And, you definitely don't want to hit 110db at all.

If you think this is useful, then you will be surprised to learn that you can use the same Hearing feature to enable white noise, too. We have covered that in detail here so make sure you check that out as well.
