God Of War Ragnarok – Mystical Heirloom Location And How To Use It

god of war ragnarok update

Relics can be a real game changer in God of War Ragnarok, as they let you benefit from special abilities and powers during combat when activated. However, one Relic appears to be useless at first glance. It is called Mystical Heirloom, has a short cooldown of 18 seconds, and its description says, “it seems important, but doesn’t seem to have any practical application in combat.”

However, the Mystical Heirloom Relic can help you get one of the best armors in the game, the Steinbjorn set, which will grant you some good defensive stats and help you regenerate your health. Let’s see how to get the Mystical Heirloom and how to use it in God of War Ragnarok.

SPOILER ALERT: This guide contains spoilers of the game.

Where to find the Mystical Heirloom Relic in God of War Ragnarok

To get the Mystical Heirloom in God of War Ragnarok, you need to use the Draupnir Spear. This new, powerful weapon is given to you as part of the Forging Destiny story quest, which takes place during the second half of the game. You’ll travel to The Forge in Svartalheim with Brok, leading you to the Lady that will create the Spear.

Once you have the Draupnir Spear, you can use it to fight but also unlock new paths and previously hidden areas. This is handy when looking for the Mystical Heirloom, as it can only be collected using the Spear to break an ice block. More specifically, this Relic can be found in Midgard, southwest of Tyr’s Temple.

You will soon notice a small area blocked by the ice, and a small glowing crack in it, where you can throw your Spear and make it explode. Do that, and you will notice a Dwarf body on the snow, along with a Lore scroll and a Relic. It is, indeed, the Mystical Heirloom. Collect both from the ground, and read the scroll if you want hints on how to use the newly found item.

How to use the Mystical Heirloom Relic

Once you find the Mystical Heirloom Relic in God of War Ragnarok, you can select it in the menu. Remember that you can only equip one Relic at a time, so you won’t be able to activate any other particular ability in combat if you have set this item as the one to use in-game. If you look at the Relic’s information in the menu, you will see that it “awakens something dormant,” and as its short cooldown suggests, it can be used quite frequently.

In fact, the Mystical Heirloom can wake up powerful sleeping creatures, which will battle you and try to defeat you. You will find three different Sleeping Troll locations and four Trolls to wake in God of War Ragnarok. Upon completion, you will be able to craft the Steinbjorn set, a great defensive armor with high defensive stats and the ability to restore some of Kratos’ health after taking significant damage in combat.

To wake up stone creatures in the game, you need to find their location, equip the Mystical Heirloom in the menu and use it by pressing L1 and Circle. This will start a challenging mini-boss fight, so be prepared and make sure you take your time to familiarize yourself with their attack patterns. Once you wake up your enemy, you can always head back to the menu and equip another Relic so that you can benefit from specific effects while in combat.

The secret stone creature at Dragon Beach

The Trolls are not the only stone creatures you can wake up with the Mystical Heirloom Relic. There is another challenging enemy in Svartalfheim, located at Dragon Beach. Look for the giant dragon statue nearby, and use the Relic to activate the mini-boss called The Everlasting.

This fight will be particularly tough, so come prepared. Once you defeat it, you will be rewarded with Dragon Claws to craft the Dragon Scale armor and the Jotunheim's Force enchantment that can be slotted into the Amulet of Yggdrasil.
