God of War Ragnarok

Sleeping Trolls are large, powerful enemies scattered throughout God of War Ragnarok’s various realms. These formidable foes are immune to damage while asleep but can be awakened with the Mystical Heirloom Relic. Waking them up lets you fight them, and upon defeating them, you get precious rewards and items that can be used to craft the Steinbjorn armor set, one of the best in the game. This highly defensive equipment can also restore some of Kratos’ health during combat, so you’d better not miss it.

This guide will show you all Sleeping Troll locations in God of War Ragnarok and will also provide you with some tips on defeating them.

SPOILER ALERT: This guide contains spoilers of the game.

How to wake up the Sleeping Trolls in God of War Ragnarok

If you want to wake up stone Trolls in God of War Ragnarok, you must get the Mystical Heirloom Relic first. It is located in Midgard, southwest of Tyr’s Temple. You will notice a giant ice block with a bright spot in the middle of it. Throw the Draupnir Spear at it and make it explode. You will see the body of a Dwarf on the ground, and the Relic will also be there.

Equip it in the menu, and when you find a sleeping stone Troll, you can wake it by pressing L1 and Circle on your controller. Now, all you need to do is fight and possibly defeat them.

All Sleeping Troll Locations in God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok features four different Sleeping Trolls, two of which are in the same location. You need to use the Mystical Heirloom to wake them up. Where to find them? You can check all stone Troll locations below.

#1 - The Derelict Outpost, Midgard

The first Troll can be found in Midgard, just a short distance from where you picked up the Mystical Heirloom Relic. This Troll, called Blodugr Steinn, is located at the Derelict Outpost southwest of Tyr’s Temple.

Follow the trail past The Lost Treasury, and you will easily spot it after you climb up the chain to reach the ruins and follow the path on the left.

#2 - The Forbidden Sands, Alfheim

The second Sleeping Troll, called Bjarg Stormr, can be found in Alfheim. Head to The Forbidden Sands, specifically southwest of The Burrows. You will see a grappling point you can use to reach the upper zone, and there you will find the second stone Troll.

This area, however, can be accessed only after you complete the Secret of the Sands and the Song of the Sands Favors. By doing so, you will stop the sandstorm in the Realm and be able to explore it fully.

#3 - Noatun's Garden, Vanaheim

The third and fourth stone Trolls, Golrab of the Ashes and Golrab of the Frost, can be found in Vanaheim. From the Mystic Gateway at Freyr’s Camp, near River Delta, navigate the river and keep to the left. Once you arrive in Noatun's Garden, you will easily notice them.

Make sure you clear the area from all the other enemies before starting the fight against the two Trolls. Otherwise, you might be in trouble during the battle.

How to defeat the Sleeping Trolls

These Trolls heavily rely on the pillar they have in their hands. They will try to knock you out with this weapon and can deal you significant damage if they hit you. However, their attacks are pretty slow, and you will see them coming, so be prepared and dodge them. You will have enough time to damage them between one of their attacks and the next.

When you fight against Golrab of the Ashes and Golrab of the Frost, try to focus on one Troll at a time, ensure you avoid the attacks from the other, and finish it. After that, you can dedicate yourself to the second enemy without going back and forth between the two. Don’t forget you can also count on your companion’s help.
