Enable Encryption For WhatsApp Backup On iPhone And Android

Enabling encryption for WhatsApp backup.

Today we will show you how you can enable end-to-end encryption for your WhatsApp backup on both iPhone and Android for extra security.

Keep your WhatsApp texts, Photos, video, and voice messages safe by enabling backup encryption on iPhone and Android

WhatsApp lets you create a complete backup of your chats to either iCloud or Google Drive, depending on which platform you are using - iOS or Android. This backup includes your texts, photos, videos, audio messages, locations, and whatnot. Needless to say that it is extremely important and private at the same time.

Unfortunately, that backup is not exactly safe until you turn on encryption for your backups. Thankfully, there is a way to turn that feature on and keep everything safe from those with ill intentions. This feature was rolled out a while back and is not enabled by default - kinda strange, actually. Today, we will show you how you can enable backup encryption, and all it takes is a few simple taps.

Tutorial

Note: WhatsApp backups require a fair amount of storage in the cloud. You might need to buy extra storage in order to keep everything stored in either iCloud or Google Drive.

Step 1. Launch WhatsApp.

Step 2. Tap on the Settings tab and then tap on Chats.

Step 3. Now tap on Chat Backup.

Step 4. Right at the bottom, you'll see an option called 'End-to-end Encrypted Backup.' Tap on it to open.

Step 5. Tap on Turn On.

Step 6. You will be required to create a password for this backup. Create one by tapping on Create Password, which is extremely secure, and one which you can remember later on.

Step 7. Tap on Next at the top right-hand corner and follow the on-screen instructions until the backup is complete. This may take a while if you have a slow internet connection.

Be warned, if you lose or forget the password you created for the encrypted backup, you'll lose all your data. Meta or WhatsApp won't help you recover your data or password at all - if it's gone, it's gone for good. You should keep this in mind before enabling this feature.

I will highly recommend turning on this feature if you love nothing more than a layer of security over your personal stuff. It's way better than not having it at all.
