Getting a good home cinema system is a very tough as there are many choices out there. There are several systems built by several companies however, a name immediately comes to mind when we speak about such systems, that is LG., and right now, I am looking at their product going by the name of LG LHT751TF Home Cinema System.

This sound system is classified as a 700W with flat panel speakers. 700W is quite low as compared to today’s sound systems. It is a 700W system because it has five 100W satellites and a 200W Subwoofer. It supports:

  • Dolby Digital
  • DTS
  • DolbyPro-Logic I & II
  • Digital Amplifier
  • XTS-Pro
  • DVD-Audio
  • DVD+R/RW
  • VCD
  • SVCD
  • CD-R/RW
  • DivX
  • XviD
  • MP3
  • WMA
  • JPEG

The LHT751TF is a 5.1 audio system with one of a kind design. It is sleek and extremely exquisite mainly due to the flat speakers. The design is simply magnificent. The speakers can be mounted on walls or can be mounted on the unique base. However, other than the design, this is an average sound system that offers (even at the time of its launch in 2006) DivX playback and an FM and AM Radio with a continent antenna. It is capable of playing PAL and NTSC format discs.

Though it says rewritable functions, the included system is player only (doesn’t write discs) and supports many formats: CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3CD, DVD R, DVD RW, DVD Audio, VCD, SVCD, WMA, DivX, and JEPG Viewer. Weight-wise, this has to be the lightest sound system I have seen. It is quite compact when taken apart. The sub-woofer is the heaviest part at 7500g.

Connectivity is just normal with no exciting ports but then again, there was no HD for the common in 2006. We have composite video out, Component video out, S-Video out, Scart in/out, two AV1 in, and a Headphone out.

One thing that does worry me is the cables and the whole cable management. The cables for connecting all five speakers and subwoofer are very fine and thin. Placing these cables under carpet with moving furniture will eventually break them. The overall sound from the system in a small to medium living room with minimum open doors and windows is very nice and cane is as loud as you like. However, in large halls and rooms, the sound output is not sufficient. The amplifier is slim and has top space for the center speaker or the FM/AM antenna.

The LHT751TF has zero setup requirements. All the cables are color-coded and you will have no issues in connecting them. There is no special need to go into menus apart from there is not much to see in the first place.

For a medium room and a careful-budget, this is a welcome addition to your big screen TV. Nevertheless, technology has grown far enough to render usefulness of the LG LHT751TF and the High-Definition age and the I/O that comes along are simply going to be missed much!

A special thanks to LG Electronics, Pakistan for providing us this unit for review
