The hopes for The Last of Us multiplayer are still alive after Naughty Dog's Director Vinit Agarwal revealed on Twitter (X) that he is still working on the project.

After the wave of "layoffs" at Naughty Dog, there was a sense amongst the fans that the long-awaited The Last of Us Multiplayer game had been put "on ice". However, with the recent development, it looks like the franchise's fans shouldn't worry since the multiplayer project is still in development.

The eagerness for the multiplayer mode amongst fans took rise when Naughty Dog revealed its multiplayer ambitions were much bigger than the Factions mode included with the first The Last of Us, and as such, a standalone game would be produced while The Last of Us Part II was single player only. However, the project has been victim of delays, since it was initially thought to be unveiled in 2023, but it still hasn't made its debut. Moreover, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier revealed that the project had been scaled down after receiving a negative evaluation from Bungie on its potential to engage players over a long time.

Now, while we don't have concrete information about how The Last of Us multiplayer will be shaped, the series creator Neil Druckmann disclosed that it is the most "ambitious" project from the studio. Moreover, it is also speculated that the title will be "Co-op", since it makes sense, as the series has always focused on teams of two – one has just always been AI-controlled. We do look forward to the release of The Last of Us multiplayer, and the statement by the studio's Director is indeed a "breath of fresh air" for the fans.

In other The Last of Us news, a remastered version of the second installment is reportedly in development, according to a Naughty Dog employee.
