Hogwarts Legacy Anniversary

It's been a year since Avalanche Software released Hogwarts Legacy, the first open world action RPG set in the Harry Potter universe. The game went on to become the biggest commercial success of 2023, having now surpassed over 24 million units sold to date, according to publisher Warner Bros. games. It has outsold the likes of Call of Duty and FIFA (now EA Sports FC), not to mention rising to the top in an incredibly packed year of great game releases.

To celebrate the occasion, the developers sent out a newsletter via email revealing some intriguing player stats. For instance, 30% of the players surprisingly picked the Slytherin House, which is traditionally considered to be the 'evil' one. 29% chose Gryffindor, the House of Harry Potter, while 24% picked Hufflepuff and 17% chose Ravenclaw.

The Wizards and Witches in training also registered the following stats during their playthroughs of Hogwarts Legacy:

  • 877 million potions were crafted
  • 1.38 billion plants were harvested
  • 637 million magical beasts were captured
  • 425 million Merlin Trials were solved
  • 5.25 billion Dark Wizards were defeated
  • 783 million stealth attacks were performed
  • 5.30 billion spiders were exterminated
  • 375 million trolls were defeated
  • 740 million hours were spent in the game
  • 51 million of those hours were spent flying on the broom
  • 3.05 billion fast travels were activated

Avalanche Software also shared a funny 'developer blooper reel' showing off bugs encountered in the development phase.

So far, there have been no indications of DLC coming to Hogwarts Legacy. However, earlier this year, we were told new features and updates would arrive at some point in the Summer. Moreover, the previously exclusive PlayStation content, the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest, will be made available on the other platforms.

Even if no DLCs are produced for Hogwarts Legacy, a sequel is pretty much a given. Moreover, Warner Bros. Games is also working on the Quidditch Champions game.
