Apple Thinks 128GB Is A Lot Of Storage In A New iPhone 15 Ad

Apple's Average Sales Price for the iPhone dropped for the second consecutive quarter

I am not sure about my readers, but one of the deciding factors for me when it comes to picking up a smartphone is the available storage. As someone who carries the entirety of his music collection on his phone, storage is very important and has been for the longest time. I believe that 128 gigs of storage without any expansion is not enough, but Apple thinks otherwise. At least that is what the company's latest iPhone 15 ad is trying to convey, and I have some questions, to be honest.

Despite selling the iPhone 15 with up to 512 gigs of storage, Apple believes 128 gigs is enough

Now, I am not saying that 128GB is not enough storage. It's enough for a lot of cases, but when you are looking at a smartphone, it might not be the case since you are going to have to store a lot of data on the phone, and every use case is different than the other. The iPhone 15 ad in question talks about how the phone's base model, which starts at 128GB, has "lots of storage for lots of photos," which could be true, but no one is just going to buy a phone for pictures. You can have a look at the ad below:

Now, credit where it is due: the production quality on this iPhone 15 ad is great, and the ad does manage to convey the message, as well. However, the ad does not talk about how 128GB of storage is enough only in certain use cases. Not everyone is going to use the phone in the same manner, and if you tell someone that the base storage is more than enough, they might listen to your word and go for it, only to realize that they need to pay for extra cloud storage because their phone is running out.

The funny thing about this ad is that Apple is also selling iPhone 15 variants that go as high as 1TB. Sure, that is the Pro series. Even when you are looking at the base and the Plus variant, they go as high as 512GB. So, promoting the base storage and talking about how it is enough is not really something that I believe is the case.

As a smartphone user who has gone through several phones, I believe that in 2024, having 128 gigs of base storage is not enough. Photos are getting larger, and the same is the case with other forms of media and, sometimes, even documents. Users who are buying phones and keeping them for more than a year would want to have more storage so they can easily store all their data without having to change the phone every year. Sure, the iPhone 15, much like other Apple products, does have the benefit of iCloud, but again, do you really want everything uploaded onto the cloud or want to keep it on your phone's local storage?
