Chinese Firms Throw Off US Sanctions Through Their Own AI Solutions, This Time Pledging Cutting-Edge Performance & Affordable Price Points

With US chip sanctions taking a new high, Chinese in-house solutions have witnessed massive growth over the past year, with companies like Huawei taking the lead with their AI solutions.

Now that the fire has ignited, a new company has joined in the race, with Intellifusion revealing its new "DeepEye" AI box featuring the firm's very own DeepEdge10 Max chip onboard. While details regarding the chip are slim, it is shown that the SoC is built on a 14nm process, along with a chiplet configuration with a D2D interface and featuring the domestic RISC-V architecture.

Intellifusion has planned out an extensive roadmap for releasing its DeepEye AI boxes, with the first batch featuring the DeepEdge10Max chip, which pledges to bring 48 TOPS of AI computing onboard on an INT8 training performance.

The next iteration, planned to launch somewhere in H1 2025, will come with the more powerful DeepEdge10Ultra chip, which is expected to deliver 96 TOPS of power. Moreover, a lightweight device is also planned for launch in the upcoming months, which will adopt the DeepEdge10Pro chip, delivering 24 TOPS.

Intellifusion isn't a new company in the Chinese market since it has worked with local governments on various projects for civic welfare, mostly involving AI capabilities. This is their first take on the consumer markets, and by the looks of it, they might successfully attract clients that require AI computing through "native" resources. Moreover, the firm plans to release its products with an aggressive price tag, with the first batch of DeepEye AI boxes reportedly costing around 1000 yuan.

With this price, Intellifusion believes that it presents a "90%" more competitive solution than the alternatives which mainly include GPUs and those cost a lot more. The company will target its products to low and mid-tier enterprise users, fulfilling the need for AI computing power at this level.

While we aren't confident whether Intellifusion could deliver the AI performance they have pledged, the numbers are interesting to witness, coming near to some of the industry's fastest NPUs available from firms like Qualcomm.
