TweakTown has once again provided an early preview of NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTX 660 graphics card which falls in the mid-$200 price range.

The GTX 660 is based on the GK106 core architecture which packs 960 cores with clocks set at 980MHz Core and 1033MHz Boost while the 2GB GDDR5 memory runs at 6008MHz. The card features a TDP of 140W and is supplied power through a single 6-Pin connector.

As seen by the results in 3DMark 11, the new GPU is just as fast as the GTX 580 and runs faster than the HD 7870. This is quite amazing that a mid-range GPU of 600 series ended up faster than the flagship GPU of previous generation. We can hope that the 660 remains competitive against the 7870 in gaming benchmarks too since at higher resolutions, the kepler GPU's performance falls alot with higher AA/AAF due to bandwidth restrictions.
