So the world is quite abuzz with iOS 7 updates, release, quite a superficial design change and a bucket load of features. In this post we will focus only on the iOS 7 security features and updates that have been packed in iOS 7. Activation Lock:
Find My iPhone feature allows you to locate and secure your lost iOS device using the same app on another iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or by visiting iCloud on the computer. iOS 7 includes a new feature named Activation Lock. With it, now turning off Find My iPhone will require Apple ID and password. It will also continue to display the custom message displaying your contact number, even after your device is erased. This will act as a major, fool-proof security layer.
iCloud Keychain:
Safari’s AutoFill feature has been updated to remember account names, passwords and credit card digits in iOS 7. Keychain will also be synced with all iOS devices running iOS 7 and Macs running OS X Mavericks using iCloud. According to Apple, the information will be stored using 256-bit AES encryption. Safari will also be able to generate a unique, hard-to-guess password like password management apps. This feature though, will be useless for those of us who prefer using Chrome.
Game Center:
A number of features have been included in iOS 7 to prevent cheating with signed submissions for leaderboard results and connecting iTunes to get rid of spam on leaderboards.
Easier access to private browsing:
Private Browsing allows you to block websites from tracking your behavior. From iOS 7 you can enable/disable Private Browsing feature right from the Safari app, from Bookmarks page or the new tab view. Currently, the Private browsing feature has to be enabled via the Settings.
Per App VPN:
iOS 7 extends the functionality of VPNs bringing the per app VPN support. However, it's not clear how it will work.
Default data protection:
Data protection enhances the built-in hardware encryption of your Apple device by protecting the hardware encryption keys with your passcode. It actually gives an additional layer of protection to your emails and attachments. You may wonder but you do enable data protection when you configure a passcode for your device. As of now, third-party apps have to add support for application data protection. Under the iOS 7, Apple will bring default data protection for third-party apps.
