How to Get Stock Android without Rooting Android Device

Rafia Shaikh

So you might be a fan of Android but do not appreciate rooting hassles? Which makes you sort of lose all the stock features that have been changed due to modifications on top and custom adventures. That is like ruining the essence of Android devices. But hey, no worries. It's Android, right. Though you would get so much more with rooting and flashing some pretty good custom ROMs, but we can tweak around if you don't want to go that way.

To get that stock Vanilla experience, developers have been working hard on solutions in the form of launchers, keyboards, icon packs and apps. In this post we will walk you through some of the most useful features to transform your Android phone into one with vanilla look and feel without any rooting.

How to get stock Android without rooting Android device in just a few steps:

Launchers:

There are a tons of launchers offering that stock Android feel. Action Launcher Pro, Nova LauncherApex Launcher, Holo Launcher HD etc are to name a few. There is also a Holo Launcher Plus to achieve stock Android for Ice Cream Sandwich. Nova Launcher is a free download, but paying for the Prime version of the app will give you access to a few more features. Apex Launcher and Holo Launcher HD are also free downloads, and they have pro versions with added features as well.stock android without rooting

Once you have downloaded the launcher, hit the Home button on your device. A pop-up window will appear and you will be asked to set your chosen launcher as the default instead of TouchWiz, Sense, etc. Alternatively, open up the launcher Settings, and there'll be an option to set the launcher as the default one.

Lock Screens:

Custom lock screens on Android are often filled with bugs and are unreliable. However, there are a few that get the job done well. Holo Locker Plus is a really good Jelly Bean locker to use especially when paired with a Jelly Bean-themed wallpaper. But if you don't want to pay, a great alternative is the GO Locker. GO Locker will require you to download two apps: the base GO Locker app and a theme add-on, named Jelly Bean one.get stock android without rooting

Once GO Locker is downloaded, adding the Jelly Bean theme is quite easy and self explanatory. However, if you are going with Holo Locker Plus, easy to enable Holo Locker, but does not come with a Jelly Bean wallpaper. Which means you need to find your own or have a Pro version to add a custom wallpaper to the lock screen.

Keyboards:

You actually don't need a Jelly Bean keyboard in particular as any kind will do as long as you're comfortable with it. It can even be your manufacturer's stock keyboard since ease and comfort are more important factors while selecting keyboards. However, SwiftKey or Swype are quite popular and a stock Jelly Bean keyboard can also be tried.

Wallpapers:

To finalize the vanilla Android experience, you would now need a wallpaper that follows the theme. A Jelly Bean wallpaper package can be easily found in the Play Store like this one. You can also find an Ice Cream Sandwich wallpaper package on Play Store easily.

Awesome! No rooting and just a few minutes' effort to have an incredible makeshift stock vanilla Android experience on any Android device that you own.
