Apple has revealed two new models of MacBook Air and Mac Pro this year, with other machines still quite in a mystery. The first performance test of MacBook Pro by geekbench - measures the performance of test computers - is here. New tests are offered in Intel Haswell processor with 16 GB of RAM, specifically with 2.5 GHz.
The problem with this measurement though is that the final number of score mainly concerns the application of OS X 10.9 Mavericks, not yet tuned and thus can significantly affect the performance of your computer in the tests.
The performance tests almost show the same score for the latest MacBook Pro 2012 and the two years old Apple MacBook Pro 2011. The attached screenshots will tell you the results. Here is the performance test of MacBook Pro 15 2011 with 16GB RAM and 240 gigabytes SSD Kingston HyperX:
In the MacBook Air, the latest models are getting better results despite the fact that Apple decided to reduce the processor frequency from 1.7 to 1.3 GHz. The last year's model had received an overall evaluation of the 5641 and 6029. The latest model with reduced frequency has done even better and gained 6081 evaluation points, which is quite a good improvement.
The 1.3 Ghz Intel Core i5 is a very powerful processor, but these new MacBook models having Haswell processor and less frequency are even achieving higher. The Haswell one won some 7079 evaluation points. The number is a good 250 points higher than the previous tatkom 2ghz processor which had got 6831 points.
The latest Apple MacBook Air is supported with Haswell processors making a significant improvement in battery life. While the previous generation offered some 5 to 7 hours of battery life, the new Air endures for huge 9 and 12 hours. This is a rather big change for laptops which should change the performance test results too.
