If you are buying the Nokia Lumia 1020, it would be an easy bet that you are doing it for the insane 41 megapixel camera. After the recent unveiling of the much hyped product, the Nokia Lumia 1020 doesn’t really disappoint.   Make no mistake the Nokia Lumia 1020’s very reason for existence is its giant camera. The Lumia is prices at $299 (contract price) and will at retail at a considerably higher price. Compared to Google’s Flagship the Motorola Moto X which has a rumored contract price of $199, the Lumia 1020 will raise eyebrows of the money conscious buyer.

The Camera

So what exactly does a 41 MegaPixel Camera Mean for the average buyer? The Lumia like the older Pureview 808 boasts a 41 megapixel camera, but unless you are printing the results onto a metre by a half meter long high definition print, the average user wont be able to utilize the entirety of the 41 mega pixels. According to a research the average photo quality required by the average consumer lies between 5 to 8 megapixels, but contrary to what logic dictates even if you utilize only 5 megapixels of the 41 available you will get a better and sharper picture than any other smart phone. The reason? Higher fidelity, the Nokia Lumia 1020 will use Oversampling techniques for both pictures and videos alike resulting in photos and videos with incredible quality and lossless zoom, regardless of the fact whether they were taken in the 41 mega pixel mode.
