Intel Ivy Bridge-E HEDT Core i7 will be an Actual 6-Core Xeon Die

Usman Pirzada

The Intel Ivy bridge-E HEDT will be a true Six-Core Die. The Sandy Bridge-E Core i7 series was infact an Eight-Core Sandy Bridge-Ep Xeon with Two cores and outside QPI disabled.

Intel Ivy Bridge-E Corei7 LGA 2011 Series will be Based on Intel Ivy Bridge-EP Xeon Dies

The current Intel Ivy bridge-E will be getting its base from the Intel Ivy bridge-EP Xeon dies:

  • Six Cores and 15 MB L3 Cache
  • Ten Core and 25 MB L3 Cache
  • Twelve Core and 30 MB L3 Cache

The first die with Six Cores and 15MB L3 Cache will be used as the template for Intel Ivy Bridge-E Core i7 LGA 2011 Series.  This will result in the following Die Configurations in the Intel Ivy Bridge-E Core i7 Series:

  • Intel Ivy Bride-E Core i7-4960X will have no feature of the Die disabled.
  • Intel Ivy Bride-E Core i7-4930K will have a lower cache of 12 MB L3
  • Intel Ivy Bride-E Core i7-4820K will have two out of six cores Disabled and 10 MB of L3 Cache.

What it would mean not to have a crippled die in the Intel Ivy Bridge-E Core i7 Series.

A non-crippled die in the Intel ivy Bridge-E Core i7 Series would mean drastically improved OC Potential and a certified PCI-E 3 root complex with a huge graphics portion. Also any leakage problems in the 22 nm FinFET process would have been solved by now.

It is also highly probable that Intel will use the soldering method to dissipate the heat from the processor instead of using Thermal paste like in low – high mid end solutions. However it doesn’t appear likely that the AVX2 Instruction set seen in the Haswell CPUs and Intel’s Coprocessors will be available on the Intel Ivy Bridge-E Core i7 Series. The Intel Ivy Bridge-E series would also feature a quad-channel (256-bit wide) DDR3 integrated memory controller with native support for DDR3-1866.
