Apple Orders Shut Down of a Site Helping Fans Find the Latest Products’ Stock

Rafia Shaikh

It doesn't matter if you are more inclined towards Android or Windows; the fact that Apple's new product always drives more craziness than any other is undeniable. Each year when Apple releases its new flagship iPad and iPhone devices, hundreds of thousands of shoppers are attracted like magnets towards the shops. Long queues start building up from a night before and fans brave the cold and spend hours to get the new device on the releasing day.

However, there are many more in numbers who do not want to be part of a long queue and prefer ordering online. Others want to simply check where the devices will be in stock before going out to check in several stores and still not finding anything. It is a fact that stores worldwide go out of stock in the matter of a few hours. This is where Apple Tracker Sites step in. These sites help consumers locate their new Apple devices on their preferred networks. Apple Tracker [Apple-tracker.com] is one such site which started helping consumers to locate the new iPhone 5S and the iPad Air. It should be noted that Apple's own version along with many other such sites have appeared too.

Using Apple tracker you can simply enter your ZIP code, filter for a particular Apple model and your carrier and voila! It will show you where you can grab the device from. Alas! No more. DMCA has issued a takedown notice to Apple Tracker with an Apple representative noting that the site “scrapes and collects data from apple.com in violation of the apple.com Internet Service Terms of Use.”

Apple tracker owner, known as Mordy, has decided to shut down the site immediately. The owner has put up a notice on his Apple Tracker website - shown below.

Apple Tracker - Site Notice:

Good Bye ☹

I've decided to turn off the site. I'm not doing this because I want to, but rather because I received a DMCA takedown notice (you can see the full text below) from Apple.
I'm not really interested in picking a fight with apple so..... I guess it's time to just say good bye.
Before I go though I just wanted to says thanks to all of you for the nice comments and emails that you've sent in the last few weeks.
It was fun while it lasted.

Apple is set to launch the new iPad Mini with Retina later this November with guaranteed stock shortages as Tim Cook himself commented in the Q4 earnings call, "it's not clear if we'll have enough" stock of iPad Mini with Retina when it launches. With that in perspective, we believe Apple is sending out a message loud and clear - "hey, don't just sit and search and visit one store only to purchase our new device. Show some fandom and appear at every other store!"
