Prerequisites to root and update Nexus 10 to Android 4.4.2 KitKat KOT49H:

  • Create a backup of all important data in your Nexus device.
  • Download and install USB drivers for Google Nexus in your computer.
  • Enable USB debugging option by pressing Menu > Settings > Applications. Navigate and tap on Developer Options to ensure that USB Debugging is enabled.
  • If you are going to root, make sure to have a custom recovery tool like CWM.
  • Ensure that your Nexus 10 carries more than 70% of charge.

  • Connect your Nexus 10 with PC and copy the downloaded firmware file on the device's memory.
  • Power off and reboot your Nexus 10 in Bootloader mode by pressing and holding Volume Up and Power buttons. You will see the Fastboot menu and START on the top.
  • Following onscreen instructions, press Volume Up button several times until you see Recoveryuse Power key to select it.
  • You will see

    an exclamation mark now; hold Volume Up and Power buttons again and you will be in the Recovery Mode menu.

  • Select the downloaded update file now and start the installation.
  • Once done, go back and reboot your Nexus 10. First reboot takes a while so be patient.

How to Root and update Nexus 10 on Android 4.4.2 KitKat:

Required: root files according to the OS - Android 4.4 KRT16S users: download Android 4.4.2 KOT49H; Android 4.4.1 KOT49E users: Android 4.4.2 KOT49H.

  • Connect your Nexus 10 to your PC using USB cable. Copy the downloaded file on your device's memory.
  • Disconnect and power off your Nexus 10.
  • Boot in to recovery: use Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously until you see the Fasboot screen. As before, use the Volume keys to highlight Recovery Mode and select it.
  • Following onscreen instructions, press Volume Up button several times until you see Recoveryuse Power key to select it.
  • In CWM recovery mode, select Install zip from sdcard and choose zip from sdcard. Locate the downloaded root file and start the rooting process.
  • After the rooting is donw, go to +++++Go Back and reboot Nexus 10 by selecting reboot system now from the Recovery Menu.
  • Your Nexus 10 will boot now; first boot takes about a few minutes.
