[Updated] Bugs Reported in Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 KitKat and their Fixes

Samsung's current flagship, the Galaxy S4, has recently received the very latest software update in the shape of Android 4.4.2 KitKat. This update has been rolled on many a carriers already and going to be on every SGS4 model soon. While this is the very latest Android OS update, it is not void of bugs and issues.

A plethora of Galaxy S4 users are reporting a number of KitKat 4.4.2 problems after installing this update. Although, 4.4.2 has brought in new features and improvements, no update can be completely perfect. In this post, we will try to identify the issues so far reported with Android 4.4.2 KitKat and their fixes, if available. For those of you who haven't yet upgraded to this latest OS, do not consider these problems as some issues you will definitely face. These are being reported by only a minority of users and it is possible that you won't find these bugs with your 4.4.2 update. - Black lock screen:

Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 bugs include a pesky little problem with the lock screen. The update, for some users, result in to a black lock screen which, when users swipe to unlock, does not show anything when the Galaxy S4 is locked but the screen is awake.

One fix to this lock screen bug is to turn off personal message (even if you never had personal message turned on): go to Setting > lock screen > lock screen widgets > clock or personal message > clock.

- Poor battery life:

Some users are reporting battery drain after the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat update installation. Many users are also reporting having better battery life after KitKat, however, this could be specific to apps on your device too. One user commented:

While there is no fix specific for SGS4 battery issue on Android 4.4.2 KitKat, consider checking the apps in settings which could cause battery to die. Factory reset also helps you improve battery life, but that would mean you would have set up your device again.

- WiFi issues:

Non-responsive WiFi on our smartphones or tablets could irritate just any of us. We literally live because of connectivity and cannot afford an update to get it away from us. It isn't known how many users have suffered from this Galaxy S4 4.4 update bug, but doesn't seem like too may.

- Deleted apps:

The only fix to this Galaxy S4 Android 4.4.2 bugs is to re-download the apps. No other way out, sadly.

- Performance issues:

This is one of the most ubiquitously reported problem - the performance lags after Galaxy S4 update to KitKat. Samsung Galaxy S4 lagged so much to annoy users into downgrading Galaxy S4.

However, that's not really needed. Simply factory reset your Samsung Galaxy S4 and you will experience fluid and lag-free performance on your SGS4.

- Broken contact list:

“Updated just now and my contact list will not load.. Its stuck on the updating contact list.?”

Another easier alternative is to turn off contact sync and then enable it back: Settings Accounts > tap on the email account and in the options, turn off contact sync. Wait a while and turn it back on.

  • While typing, Samsung Galaxy S4 lags after the update. When it catches up with you, the text has several duplicated words. - complains Marty.
  • "My Galaxy S4 looses battery in no time. AND The charging is slow as well… I’ve been surfing and charging for 30 minutes now and the battery have been stuck at 12 % all the time" - confirms Stig Haugan about the battery drain bug that is being suffered by various SGS4 users.
  • One reader Shahzad says that the Samsung Galaxy S4 loses signals after 60% battery loss and automatically turns off.
  • Like the above reader, Tim Richardson and Stephen Juarez also complain about losing mobile signals. Since SIM card gets disconnected, the mobile ends up losing 4G too.
  • Miho Nik is one of the troubled users too as he can no more download torrents.
