This year's IFA is almost upon us. Its only a month until we get to see the latest offerings from today's tech giants. Excluding Apple of course. Samsung, Motorola, LG, Sony are all primed up for this year's IFA. To be held in Berlin, we've made a list of products you should expect to see by these manufacturers. Of course, the IFA is not limited to these few only. Each year hundreds of companies present their latest offerings to the public and this IFA will be no exception.
So before IFA officially starts, a large variety of gadgets are expected to be unveiled in Berlin. So if you're anticipating a gadget launch and want to know whether it'll be launched at the IFA, here's your chance. We've made a list of all the major releases expected this year. So let's start!
Samsung.
Samsung as usual, is planning big for Berlin. The manufacturer is expected to make several big releases this September. The biggest of these is no doubt the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 which is a highly anticipated device. Several rumors have surfaced so far about the Note 4. The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to come with a 2/.5 GHz Snapdragon 805 and the Exynos 5433.
This is to be couple with a 5.7 inch screen, 4 GB of RAM and 16/32 GB variants according to the specifications of the Galaxy Note 4 posted by a retailer online. Apart from the Note 4, the Samsung Gear Solo is also expected to come at IFA. The Gear Solo or the Gear S, as the name suggests is a standalone device and will be able to function without the need of a smartphone. It is also expected to have a SIM card slot.
A rival for Google Glass called the Gear Glass, the Galaxy Alpha are also included in the list of devices to fill Samsung's roster. Another interesting device expected is the Gear VR - a headset. This is expected to work alongside a Galaxy smartphone for a complete 3D experience. Sounds interesting, but will it see the light of day?
Sony.
Sony also seems to have it's hands full for the IFA. We've been hearing for quite a while about the next device in the Xperia Z lineup, the Sony Xperia Z3. Alleged pictures and specifications of the device have been abundant on the internet. From the looks of it, the Xperia Z3 will not differentiate from the Z2 on the basis of specifications. The difference will be based primarily on the basis of design and other features.
Apart from the Xperia Z3, the Xperia Z3 Compact is also rumored to be under works over at Sony. The Xperia Z3 Compact is expected to be similar in specs to the Xperia Z3, but be smaller in size, as the name suggests. We've been seeing lots and lots of Sony Xperia Z3 Compact pictures and blueprints lately though.
A Sony Z3 tablet compact which is allegedly waterproof, Sony's alleged smartwatch, the Sony SmartWatch 3 and SmartBand Talk can also be expected at Berlin this year. The Xperia Z3 Compact on the other hand is expected to come with a 2.5 GHz processor, a 20 MP camera and 2 GB RAM. A treat for all the mini-device lovers out there.
LG.
Next on our list for the IFA is LG. LG's G watch was one of the original Android Wear devices debuted at Google's I/O. Well it looks like the company has a successor planned for the G Watch - the G Watch R. The LG G Watch R takes a leaf from Motorola's playbook and sticks to the circular design followed by traditional analog watches.
In addition, the device is expected to come with 1.3 inch P-OLED display with a 320 x 320 display resolution. This is to be powered by a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 and 512 MB of RAM. The G-Watch R will come with 4 GB of internal storage, a 410 mAh battery and will be dust and waterproof.
LG is also expected to show off the LG G3 Stylus next month. While not coming to the US, the phone will come with 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage with a 960 x 540 resolution and a 5.5 inch display.
Microsoft.
IFA won't be complete without Redmond joining the mix. Microsoft is fully set to bring two new Lumia phones to the market, according to rumors. The Lumia 730, also being dubbed as the selfie smartphone, will come with a Snapdragon 400 and a 4.7 inch display. The camera resolution on the device is expected to be 7 MP rear and 5 MP front.
Screen resolution for the Lumia 730 will be 1280 x 780 and the device will come with 1 GB of RAM. The second device on Redmond's roster is the Lumia 830, which is expected to come with slightly better specifications. These are a 13 MP rear camera and the Snapdragon 800.
HTC.
HTC has interesting devices planned for this year's IFA. The company has confirmed that it will be giving us the world's first 64 bit Android smartphone, the HTC Desire 820. Touting the Desire 820 as the world's first 64 bit Android might however just be distorting the truth slightly.
The company already has the Desire 510 powered by the Snapdragon 410. However, what separates the Desire 820 from the 510 is the Snapdragon 615. The Snapdragon 615 is an octa-core processor with uses two sets of four Cortex A52 clocking at 1.8 and 1 GHz. A smartwatch from HTC might also be in the works as well. As though we didn't have enough smartwatches already.
ASUS.
Continuing on the complete variety of smartwatches available, as mentioned above, ASUS is also providing us with a smartwatch of it's on at the IFA. The ASUS ZenWatch will be an Android Wear device and will be competitively priced.
ASUS is also rumored to have a smartphone under the works for us. The ASUS PadFone X Mini was recently spotted at the FCC. It includes support for LTE 2, 4, 5 and 17. It will also operate on 800/1500 GSM, all of which coupled makes the phone an AT&T device.
Huawei.
Huawei is apparently looking to join the top dogs in the flagship smartphone category. Huwaei Ascend D3 or D7 will come with an octa core processor of it's own. The front camera on the device will have a resolution of 5 MP backed with a rear snapper of 13 MP. Huawei's device will also be coming with 16 GB on board storage and 3GB of RAM.
A lower end variant of the phone will come with 2 GB of RAM 1080 x 920 resolution as opposed to the QHD ( 1440 x 2560) on the previous. Huawei's devices are expected to be running on Android 4.4 KitKat and Huawei's EMUI 3.0 interface.
So that's it folks. IFA is going to be a huge event as usual, and the devices that we've mentioned above include only a fraction of releases expected. The number of manufacturers showing of their gadgets is HUGE and no can humanly expect to cover all of them in one post.
Apart from smartphones and tablets, curved screens will also be a dominating feature at IFA. The most notable manufacturer is Panasonic, which is yet to dabble in the curved screen arena. We can also expect the technology to become more affordable and expand away from the likes of Samsung, Sony and LG.
While ASUS's wearables and smartphones make a much lesser hype, the company is expected to debut several ultrabooks this year as usual. Both Lenovo and ASUS can be expected to surprise us in a segment which is being claimed by many as outdated.
