Apple Takes Charge of Industry by Offering Carrier-Freedom with Apple SIM

Apple took on the stage again this year yesterday launching some new products. iPad Air 2 and Retina 5K iMac definitely took most of the attention of the maker while iPad mini 3 suffered a little abandonment issue with its parent. However, one thing that may be loved by the consumers and got no mention at the stage is Apple SIM. Apple SIM will come out of box with iPad Air 2 helping users to choose different carriers and data packages whenever they want to. This probably is the first case when a manufacturer is giving the user freedom of carrier choice at the time of purchase and in the future by helping users to switch to different carriers whenever they need / want to.

Apple SIM of the iPad Air 2:

Apple SIM will work with all the supported carriers of US and UK for now. Apple will expand its coverage to more carrier options around the world. This concept might prove to be a dream come true especially for those who spend much time in business or pleasure travelling. Here is how the SIM card will work with iPad Air 2 as described by Apple itself:

The new Apple SIM is preinstalled on iPad Air 2 with Wi-Fi + Cellular models. The Apple SIM gives you the flexibility to choose from a variety of short-term plans from select carriers in the U.S. and UK right on your iPad. So whenever you need it, you can choose the plan that works best for you — with no long-term commitments. And when you travel, you may also be able to choose a data plan from a local carrier for the duration of your trip.

This is one mega advancement in telecommunications sector with Business Insider going as far as to give it the potential to "change the wireless industry as we know it." As far now Apple supports AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint in United States with Verizon sticking out of this amazing technology for some reason. This is an awesome proposition especially from user perspective as it gives freedom from sticking to a single carrier. Of course carriers in different regions will try to push back, especially when the SIM comes with iPhone and possibly other products of different operating systems too. Such exciting times, we live in!
