Japanese site Macotakara has some new information about a larger iPad. The device according to the Japanese will be a direct competitor for Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 range. The Surface Pro 3 has several variations with Intel's Core series of processors and several impressive features. It has failed to gain popularity however, with Redmond rumored to be cancelling the lineup altogether.

Specifications for the iPad Pro start with a 12.2 inch screen, which is a little bit lesser than the Surface Pro 3's 12.9 inch screen. The iPad Pro is also expected to look similarly to the iPad 2 design wise, apart from a few changes. The iPad Pro is expected by macotakara to have two additional speakers on board, which will end up giving the device stereo sound capability. An additional microphone is also expected to come on the device.

With these features, the iPad Pro is also expected to be surprisingly thin, with sources expecting the device's thickness to be between the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. With Apple's startling thickness on the iPad Air 2, we won't be surprised if the iPad Pro ends up following suit. The device is expected to enter manufacturing next year. With the Surface Pro 3 declining in popularity, the time would be right for Apple to enter the educational market with a larger tablet. Will we be seeing the iPad Pro next year? Only time will tell.
