Omer Saleem

Mozilla has today announced the availability of its first mobile browser for Nokia's Maemo platform. Nokia's first phone on this newly developed revamped version platform is N900, which is widely dubbed as the smartest phone by Nokia.

The latest mobile Firefox has features like tabbed browsing, plug-ins and add-on support as well as sync between desktop and mobile browser which Mozilla terms as Weave Sync.

Although a late entrant in the mobile browser market but Mozilla has taken the first step towards shaking up the competition by Apple's Safari, Nokia & Opera, which recently launched its Opera Mini 4.2 with tabbed browsing support.

According to Mozilla, iPhone and Blackberry user will not be able to install this browser as there are OS constraints. Therefore, unless someone comes up with an iPhone or Blackberry variant, the user will have to wait.

As said on Mozilla's own blog:

This is an exciting entrance into the mobile ecosystem and Firefox for Maemo5 is just the beginning
