Mac users got the first ever automatic security update pushed by Apple. Apple was merely stimulated to push an automatic OS X update due to a critical security issue in the network time protocol (NTP). Going one step ahead of the problem, this is the first time Apple provide its users to patch the problem. Researchers at Google revealed the flaw which allows the remote attacker deliver malicious code to the user’s PC. It allows hackers to remotely control machines.
Apple found its products free from vulnerability.
This might consequently cause attacks on many UNIX based servers, counting Linux and OS X. This is because of a NTP’s (also known as network time protocol) weakness, which is used to synchronize computer system clocks on computer networks. US found this issue necessary to be flagged and thus Apple recommended the update of OS X, an installation update to its users. Publicly released last last week, the security hole effects all operating systems versions of "Network Time Protocol" before to 4.2.8 update. The NTP flaw can cause buffer overflows if it is ill-used. Apple decided on these terms to release an automatic security patch because it wanted to make sure that the process is fast enough to reach Mac users due to the brutality of the susceptibilities.Bill Evans, an Apple spokesman told Reuters that this update is seamless and it doesn't even require a restart of your personal computer.
Earlier, Apple released other security retrievals updated in regular system heads with an option of approval before it gets updated. Automatic security update system was delivered two years ago but it’s not implemented till now. Its not been used since two years normally because of the constraints but now it is readily available to be used by all. Besides other fixes and patches issued, most OS X security related updates required user interaction to install. Though most of them requires manual transmission or at least the user needs to command Mac to install the update automatically. With the first time automatic security update release, Apple also automatically updates a usually small and mini database of definitions containing malware data on Macs and ensures that users are kept away from installing known bad or virus containing software's. However, Apple claimed that it doesn't know of any incident or detected any vulnerability of Apple products that are beleaguered by potential hackers. But Apple still supported the argument and issued its first ever automatic security update for Mac users.
