The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Little Difference Between PS4 & Xbox One Versions

Archie Paras

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is probably the most highly anticipated title of the year. With the game being released on PC, as well as current-gen consoles, there are millions of fans waiting for its release. CD Projekt RED have proven their dedication to providing the best experience possible, on all three platforms, and during a recent preview event, held last month, they demonstrated all three versions. This gives confidence to the consumer, that the same high quality experience can be found on all three platforms.

Michał Krzemiński, Senior Art Producer, said to GamingBolt, in reply as to why CD Projekt chose to do this, considering that most other publishers avoid to demonstrate certain versions of their titles,

“The answer is simple, we’re very confident of what we’ve managed to achieve. The Witcher is simply a good game, regardless of the platform you choose to play it on,”

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt runs at 1080p on PS4 vs 900p on the Xbox One

There is indeed a substantial difference between the two versions though. The PS4 version is already running at 1080p and the Xbox One at 900p. Michał  was asked whether there is a chance that the developers wiil be able to improve on the xbox One's rendering resolution in time for launch or even post launch,

“You noted that we’ve shown the game on all platforms [in the recent preview event]. We did this also to show that there’s little difference between 1080p and 900p in terms of the actual experience you get. These numbers are just numbers, it’s the adventure and thrill you get from playing the game that counts,”

Michał ' replied, explaining that in actuality there's very little difference between the two resolutions, and this was apparent on the demonstration. He did not give an answer as to whether a possible improvement could be made on the Xbox One's resolution in the future. The difference in image quality could indeed be negligible, given that the Xbox One hardware upscales to a 1080p signal, but it still remains true that for fans owning both consoles the PS4 version might be the better choice between the two.

The PC version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is undoubtedly the best

The PC version, is undoubtedly considered to be the best of three, with sharper looking textures, options for higher resolutions, and certain enhancements and features. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will also have support for Nvidia Gameworks, which will offer incredibly detailed hair and fur effects. Regardless of which version you end up with though, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could very well be one of, if not the best gameplay experience of the year.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is stated for a May 19 release for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One platforms. We will bring you any new information regarding The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as soon as it becomes available.
